Ready for Vienna

4 Dec

As the WPR travelers from Winter Waltz II headed off to Vienna Sunday morning, the Winter Waltz I crew embarked on our last day in Budapest.  After several days of fog and clouds, the fog began to burn off and we actually got to see the sun sparkling on the Danube (beautiful, but never blue).  Made the trip across the river from Pest to the old city of Buda.  After treading those old cobblestones for a while with our excellent guide Anna, the group had free time for some antique shopping, leisurely lunches, Christmas markets… and even a few intrepid souls headed off to the Turkish baths.  (Ginger has had better luck posting pictures than I have from my hotel…better luck from Vienna, I hope).  Puccini’s Turandot was spectacular last night….good singing and interesting stagecraft in a beautiful old theater that seats just over 12oo.  One of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe.  Tomorrow we’re off to the land of Haydn!      more later…..Cheryl
